Case Description
I am a 50 y.o. with excellent dental history. I also have Sjogren's syndrome and MS. Of course between the SS and MS drugs and disease , I have extreme sicca complex, for which my dentist has prescribed Salagen. I have successfully used this product for several years. Now my teeth are crowding and causing malocclusions. My DDS recommends Invisalign. I am attempting to research this product and be certain it is the product for me. I realiize you cannot prescribe simply by my telling you my history without you first examining me, but can you give me an opinion on the use of the Invisalign product. Or perhaps you could point me in a direction to find evidence based data on the efficacy of the product. Many thanks!

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Hi,Invisalign is an excellent orthodontic treatment method in many cases. Some cases are actually better treated with Invisalign, while more traditional braces are better suited for others. As you realize, an exam is the only way to find out. Many times Invisalign is faster than braces, primarily because all the specific planning is done at the beginning of treatment. Almost always there is a "refinement" phase after initial treatment that allows us to tweak the results.I''''m not aware of any complications with Sjogren''''s or MS. Keeping your mouth hydrated is key of course. If you''''d like to visit for a consultation, I''''d be happy to see you.All my best,Chris

Check out www.invisalign.com on the web. They have a patient section which describes Invisalign. As to evidence based data, you would have to search Invisalign on www.pubmed.com to find research articles. It only gives you abstracts, and if you want the entire article you would have to pay to get access to individual journal. Invisalign has been around since the early 1990''''s. It started out as the ability to move 1 tooth and has evolved into multiple tooth movement similar to traditional orthodontics, but it has its limitations as does traditional orthodontics. It is an effective choice to straighten and align teeth with ther caveat that it is patient controlled where "if you don''''t wear the aligners, then the teeth won''''t move". Pretty obvious, but I give that disclaimer to every Invisalign patient I treat. Any more questions, let me know.Frank Avason DMD,MS,PA
